Fortuna

Fortuna is a spa town to the northeast of Murcia near the border of the province. Famous for its hot springs which were greatly appreciated by the Romans, Fortuna is fast becoming popular once again as the town becomes an important centre for hydrotherapy, beauty treatments and other therapies associated with the natural hot mineral water. Fortuna is a typical Spanish town, as yet unexploited, with peaceful streets and a white church with a curious tower. For country lovers, to the south of Fortuna, there is a large lake, enclosed in a nature preservation area and surrounded by woods, ideal for walking or fishing.

If you like to be close to the water, then the vast lake at Fortuna is a lovely place to spend a lazy day. For the evenings there are restaurants in Fortuna town and, within a short drive, there are many pretty, unspoilt villages which have quaint tapas bars and restaurants

Moraira, the ‘Saint-Tropez’ of the Costa Blanca, is situated north of Benidorm between Calpe and Denia in Spain. It is an old fishing village and has retained its character because high rise buildings are prohibited. The mid day temperature is always mild throughout the year (usually above 15°C).

With a population of 9,500 the town of Moraira is situated on the northern shoulder of the Costa Blanca. There are 4 large sandy beaches at Moraira, which provides plenty of space for holidaymakers, even during the summer months. There is a modern marina in the village where water sport facilities such as sailing, water ski, diving and fishing are available. One can also hire boats & water scooters, drive go-carts, ride horses, play golf, tennis, squash, basket ball and bowling. There are several discotheques and many restaurants in and around the village, some with stars in the Guide Michelin. There are 5 golf courses close by. Approximately 100 km south of Valencia & 80 km north of Alicante the town is easily reachable form both Alicante & Valencia international airports. Best reached via the A-7 toll road (exit 63), the journey time in most cases takes around an hour

The city of Torrevieja lies about 50 km southwest of Alicante and is reached via the road N332, a wonderfull drive along the Costa Blanca with wonderfull views. Torrevieja marks a kind of language line betwwen the traditional Valencian / Catalan in the north of the costa blanca and the spanish wide castellan spanish. Further to the south you will find the more “ spanish only ” speaking people, while the area of Torrevieja and upwards is usually more bilingual ( valencian and spanish ). The city of Torrevieja which literally translated means old tower (old - vieja and tower - torre) was first mentioned around 1800. It became famous in 1802 when it took over the salt administration from Orihuela. Apart from the salt industry today tourism and fishing are the main industries in the area. The harbour gives homes to a fishing fleet of over 300 and more than 900 private yachts. The concentration of salt and the temperature combine to endow the local area a particularly healthy micro climate, recommended by doctors for its beneficial properties. One of our guides will take the group on a suitable route over the mountains whilst walkers and hikers soak up the dramatic scenery. Walks ensure a traditional Spanish Tapas meal at dinner or alternatively sandwiches will be provided. At the end of a walk or hike a soak in the spa baths at Fortuna or to just sit round the pool is the best way to relax.

Temperature and climate

The Costa Calida like the Costa Blanca is part of the "Mediterranean zone". The Costa Calida also has very mild winters, and has quite a low rainfall (12 to 17in). There are between 2700 and 3000 annual hours of sunshine, with temperatures in summer exceeding 30 degrees

There is a bar and restaurant which offers meals and snacks. There is also a small shop where essential food and drink can be purchased. Each week we offer an authentic curry night and barbeque.

Fortuna is situated in a treasured and protected area on the fringe of the Sierra de la Pilar National Park. Although the area is peaceful, you will always find plenty to occupy your time. There is cycling, horse riding and walking available on a great number of tracks through the National Park where you can stop at one of the many picnic areas.
